Plastisol Dip Coating

PDM Core Manufacturing Capability

Plastisol Dip Coating Services

PDM Industries has provided reliable plastisol dip coating services to American automotive, military, and industrial manufacturers since 1975. Our 20,000 sq ft Traverse City facility applies durable PVC plastisol coatings to metal substrates using a precision hot-dip process that delivers consistent thickness, superior dielectric strength, and long-term corrosion resistance for OEMs including General Motors and Ford.

Production Process Line Steps & Quality Controls

Rigorous sequence executed inside our 20,000 sq ft Traverse City plant.

Substrate Pretreatment

Parts undergo chemical de-greasing, grit-blasting, and application of a thermal-bonding primer to prevent future rust-creep if the vinyl is mechanically gouged.

Precision Preheating

Components are suspended and baked in automated convective ovens at 375°F to 425°F. The exact dwell time and thermal mass determine the coating's final thickness.

Controlled Immersion

Parts are smoothly lowered into custom formulation dipping tanks under steady speed curves to guarantee uniform gelation without run marks or air pocket entrapping.

Thermal Curing & Fusing

The gelled vinyl layer is baked again at 380°F to cure the vinyl, ensuring complete polymerization and maximum abrasion protection.

Water Quench & Inspection

Quick cooling preserves the desired surface texture (gloss, satin, or matte) and locks in physical elastomeric bounds. 100% spark testing is done for high-voltage applications.

Standard Engineering FAQs

Q: What is the typical thickness achievable in a single dip?

A: We can reliably deposit anywhere from 0.005 inches up to 0.250 inches of plastisol in a single heat cycle. Multi-dipping is also an Available standard for ultra-dense shock protection.

Q: Do you offer a permanent bond that won't slide off?

A: Yes. By applying our proprietary liquid primers before the preheating phase, we achieve a molecular bond between the vinyl and raw iron/steel that cannot be peeled off easily.

Q: What is the maximum part size PDM can coat?

A: Our standard dip tanks accommodate parts up to 24″ × 36″ × 8″. Larger parts can be accommodated with custom tooling  send us your part drawings.

Q: Can PDM match specific Pantone or RAL colors?

A: Yes. Our in-house chemists can formulate plastisol to match most Pantone and RAL color references. Custom color matches require a small batch minimum.

Q: Does plastisol coating meet military specifications?

A: Yes. We have experience coating to multiple military specifications including MIL-PRF and MIL-DTL standards. Contact us with your specific spec requirements.

Q: What is the typical lead time for plastisol dip coating?

A: Standard production runs ship in 2-3 weeks. Expedited service is available. We routinely accommodate rush orders for automotive OEMs.

Q: What industries use plastisol dip coating services?

A: Plastisol dip coating is used in automotive, medical, industrial, and electrical applications. It provides durable protection, improved grip, insulation, and corrosion resistance.

Q: Why choose PDM Industries for plastisol dip coating?

A: PDM Industries has over 50 years of experience delivering reliable plastisol dip coating services with consistent quality, precision, and custom solutions for OEMs.
